CMC Alumni of USA award 2023: For outstanding contribution to the field of Medicine and Science

On the occasion of the 8th Triennial CMC Global Reunion 2023, New YorK Chittagong Medical College Alumni of USA recognizes Professor Hasina Banoo of CMC 7 for Outstanding Contributions to Medicine and Science.

Professor Hasina Banoo is a physician leader of a uniquely versatile talent and unparalleled contribution to the field of cardiology in Bangladesh.

Prof Dr Hasina Banoo obtained her MBBS from Ctg medical college in 1968 FCPS in Medicine from BCPS in 1980. She trained under legendary professors like national Professor Nurul Islam, Professor Abdur Rab, Professor Abu Zafar and Brigadier Malik! Professor Banoo begin her career in Cardiology as an assistant professor and later served Chittagong Medical College and Sir Salimullah Medical College as an associate professor. She retired in 2002 as professor of Cardiology of NICVD. Professor Banoo carries the accolade of being the first female cardiologist of Bangladesh and author of first set of Bangla text books on Cardiology those were widely popular in both Bengals! In addition, professor Banoo was the founder of CCU and echocardiogram program in Chittagong Medical College hospital. She also is the founder of the first cardiology specialty hospital in Dhaka in private sector – Cardiohope Heart Hospital. During her long career in cardiology – Dr Banoo trained in Royal Post Graduate Medical School, and Hammersmith Hospital in London, UK WHO between 1985-86 under a WHO program! She also did Fellowship in cardiology in LDS medical College in Salt lake City, utah, USA in 1995. Later in her career she was appointed as a Visiting Fellow, Pap worth Hospital , Medical College of Cambridge University, U.K in 1997. She has an extensive list of peer reviewed publications and text/ fiction books and she is a Member of International Board of Editors of “Indian Heart Journal”, India.

One of the crowning scientific legacies of prof Banoo is her pioneering use of Low molecular weight heparin in Acute Myocardial Infacrtion and Prof Banoo presented this data in France as well as Pakistan’s PCPS and BCPS joint seminar.

Professor Hasina Banoo is involved in numerous projects of high social and national impact! She is a relentless campaigner against tobacco abuse. Dr Banoo also leads a very effective public health campaign in raising awareness of and training the general public in high quality CPR.

Professor Banoo is also a prolific author of poetry and fiction bangla books as well as a hobby designer of fashion apparels.

She is still extremely energetic and passionate about everything Bangladesh and has an endless list of work that she plans to complete before she retires from a busy and active life!
