Professor Emran Bin Yunus

He was awarded with National Science & Technology Award, CMC Alumni Association Golden Jubilee Award for Research, Lifetime Achievement Recognitions by CMC Alumni Association of North America, BMA North America, CMC Alumni of Australia and New Zealand, BMA Chattogram Chapter and, BRA Gold Medal 2020 plus a Co-winner of the globally reputed ‘The BMJ Group Award for the best research publication of 2010’.

Professor Emran Bin Yunus is an Internist and Nephrologist presently at CSCR, Chattogram. Bangladesh. He worked as a Medicine Faculty Member of University of Chittagong, BCPS, Elective Placement Coordinator of CMC-Oxford-Mahidol Collaboration and others. A CMC15 alumnus conferred later with FCPS and FRCPEdin. The career began as a Lecturer of Physiology, then up-ladder he was Professor and Head of Nephrology, Vice Principal and Principal of Chittagong Medical College before his golden handshake from service. He was and has been engaged with teaching, training, examinership, nephrological clinical services, medical journal editing, research and resource person, having experience of working in institutions in home and abroad including Armed Forces Research Institution of Medical Sciences in Bangkok and National University of Malaysia. He worked and has been working as a member of core committees and executive bodies of many national, regional and international agencies related to medical education, research, professional pursuits and social organizations as well. He was a member of Malaria Research Group (MRG) and Central Coordination Mechanism of Global Fund for Fighting AIDS TB Malaria (GFATM), the endeavors almost eliminated malaria from Bangladesh. As founder general secretary of Bangladesh Kidney foundation and through the dynamic ACMS Nephrological Services were introduced at CMCH long before the formal establishment of Nephrology Unit in 1986. Apart, he is a Consultant Scientist and GCP monitor of Tropical Disease Research wing of WHO, Professor of Public Health at Premier University Chattogram and an activist of the ‘One Health’ Program with Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, ‘Green Endeavor’ of Lets Garden, and coordinator of elective placement of CMC students at Oxford Medical School, a program initiated by him. He has many research publications and chapter contributions in his credit, about 100+. He was the pioneer research investigator that detected Dengue in Bangladesh, the framer Editor of the National Guidelines for Clinical Management of Dengue Syndrome, and National Malaria Guidelines.

A frequent traveler as he is and was, involved in research monitoring and consultancy in countries of South East Asia and Africa. His interests are Dialysis Adequacy, Access and Affordability, Compliance and Outcome plus Medical Professionalism. A Rotarian Past President of Rotary Club of Chittagong he is involved in many uplifting community projects, mention worthy are ‘Do It Yourself Blood Pressure Measurement for school students’ and, ‘School Student Deworming Drive’ that has been later picked up and becomes ‘National Deworming Day Observation’. Around him a son, a daughter, and, add-on daughter and son, who are accountant and doctors and engineer respectively; two girlfriends respectively off son and daughter. With the memory of spouse Professor Nayeema Akhter he has been passing mix up time being delved into family, profession, driving, photography, green endeavor, electronics, column and other writings, lectures, presentations, social works and books.
