Professor Dr. Lutful Anwar Quadery

Lifetime Achievement Award

Lifetime achievement award for pioneering the field of Neurosurgery in Bangladesh and for organizing physicians of Bangladesh origin in UK under the banner of BDMA during our war of independence in 1971.

Born and raised in Chittagong, Professor Quadery went to Hathazari high school, Hathazari, Chittagong and then went to Chittagong College. Professor Quadery was a student of second batch of Chittagong Medical College and graduated in 1964. After working a few years in Chittagong Medical college Hospital Emergency department, Professor Quadery went to United Kingdom for higher studies. In 1968, he earned a diploma in Venereology from University of Liverpool and in 1971 he obtained his fellowship from the royal college of surgery of Edinburgh. For the next ten years, he worked in different United Kingdom Hospital in academic roles.

Professor Quadery returned to Bangladesh in 1978 and joined Chittagong Medical College. At that time he founded the neurosurgery department of Chittagong Medical College and joined the department as the head of the department and as an Associate professor of Neurosurgery. After serving all his professional life, he retired from the same department as the professor and head of the department of Neurosurgery.

For his pioneering role in neurosurgery in Bangladesh, Professor Quadery has received numerous recognitions and awards including Gold Medals from Chittagong Shamaj Kolyan Porishod and ATCO gold medal.

Professor Quadery also served as the presidents of Bangladesh medical Association, Chittagong and CMC teachers Association. He also led many other organizations including Bangladesh Society of Neurosurgery, Bangladesh Society of Surgeons. Currently he is serving as the president of Bangladesh Diabetic Association, Chittagong.

During our war of Independence in 1971, professor Quadery joined UK based resistance movement and was an organizer of the UK based war time organization, Bangladesh Medical Association (BDMA).
